FAMILY FRIENDLYSummer Activities

Gondola Rides

The towns of Telluride and Mountain Village are linked by a spectacular, 13-minute ride on a free gondola—the first and only free public transportation system of its kind in the United States. Once you discover this unique mountain mode of travel, you'll find a front row seat to view Mother Nature from 10,500 feet.

Wildlife Viewing

Elk herds and mule deer can be sighted from the golf course and grazing on the valley floor. Lynx, bobcats, black bear and mountain lions stay in the backcountry and are occasionally spotted from the gondola.

Horseback Riding

Experience the real Wild West on a horseback riding adventure at Roudy’s Stables. Located on a high mesa with jaw-dropping views of the Telluride valley and snow-covered peaks, Roudy offers daily guided trail rides.

National Parks and Scenic Byways

Some of the nation’s most spectacular National Parks are within two hours of Telluride, including Mesa Verde in Cortez and Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Montrose. Canyon of the Ancients National Monument and Hovenweep ruins are located near Dolores. The San Juan Skyway and Unaweep Tabeguache Byways are outstanding routes with remarkable scenery, historic and geologic sites.
